Creating a supportive work environment for employees with cancer

Why Kidney Qween?

Well I’ve had kidney cancer, and the blood in my wee was the reason I went to my GP! It is one of the main symptoms of kidney cancer. Unfortunately its often ignored. Where i can the wee part of Qween will be highlighted red in the hope to raise awareness of the symptom.

At Kidney Qween, we believe that a supportive work environment is essential for all employees, especially those facing health challenges like cancer. Our tried and tested  Cancer Ambassador Scheme has been developed in response to the personal experiences of our team member, Jemma, who encountered a lack of adequate support during her battle with cancer. Inspired by her journey, we aim to create a compassionate workplace culture that empowers and assists both employees and their families during difficult times.

What is the Cancer Ambassador Scheme?

The Cancer Ambassador Scheme is designed to provide comprehensive training for designated employees—our Cancer Ambassadors—equipping them with the knowledge and skills to be a source of support for colleagues impacted by cancer. Through empathetic understanding and proactive assistance, our ambassadors aim to foster an environment where employees feel safe, respected, and supported as they navigate cancer treatment and recovery.

Quarterly Cancer Support Calls

Join us for our quarterly calls, a dedicated space where employees can come together to share, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations about cancer care and support. These sessions are designed to foster community, provide valuable insights into the latest advancements in cancer treatment, and highlight the experiences of those who have navigated their own cancer journeys or supported others through it.

What To Expect

Insights into Advancements in Cancer Treatment: Stay informed about the latest breakthroughs and innovative treatments in cancer care. Each call will feature expert guests or resources that provide an overview of new research, therapies, and techniques shaping cancer treatment today.

Personal Stories and Shared Experiences: Hear firsthand accounts from individuals who have faced cancer directly or have supported loved ones through their battles. Their stories can inspire resilience and offer practical insights into navigating the emotional and psychological aspects of cancer.

Engagement with Support Groups: We will also feature discussions with representatives from local and national cancer support groups. These conversations will help you understand the resources available and the importance of community support in the cancer journey.

Interactive Quizzes and Learning Activities: To make learning fun and engaging, we’ll include interactive quizzes and activities that test your knowledge and reinforce key concepts discussed during the calls. This is a great way to gauge your understanding of the material and connect with others in a light-hearted setting.

Why Join?

These quarterly calls are more than just informational sessions—they’re a community-focused initiative that promotes understanding, offers emotional support, and connects individuals with shared experiences. Whether you are directly impacted by cancer, supporting someone who is, or simply want to learn more, we welcome your participation.

Together, we can create a supportive environment that encourages dialogue, education, and camaraderie, making it easier for everyone to navigate the complexities of cancer in a workplace setting.
